How does anyone get this surgery? my wife tried for quite awhile but our insurance changed and we were told it would not be covered, so many people get it...How?

I have a friend that is 5 years out, a friend that is 1 year out, a cousin who is 5 years out and my mom had the surgury as well. My mom's surgury was way way back when I was in high school. Back then, they did things so much different. That sounds like your husband is going well. I am glad things are coming around for you as well. Keep me updated when you can. Lori

I am glad the dr. seems to be getting the thyroid problem under control. It sounds like you have been on a long road to try to get all your ducks in order (so to say)to have the surgury. Do you know of anyone who has had the surgury? I know two plus my mom had it years and years ago. This was the old stapling of the stomach. What surgury are you considering? I wantt o stay away from the lap band.

How far have you gone as far as getting the surgury done? I went to the require meeting. I meet with my primary dr, asked her for a letter of support and to list my co-morbidities. I also asked her for a script for the require sleep study. I have made the appoinment with the Psycholist as well. These are all required steps in my area for the surgury. My primary dr. also has to show how long we have been looking at my weight issues. I wish I could just loose this weight. I know that the surugy is not the eay wat out as some have said to me! They just don't seem to get it as far as being heavy and unhealthy. I also have disabilities that limit my physical activies so this does nto help me either as far as loosing the weight.”

FINALLY!!!!
Oct 26, 2007

After nothing but obstacles with this approval process for the surgery.... My last thyroid check on 10/15 was 4.2 (on my 41st bday!!!).

Turned over the labs, and now I am back in the review process pile. LOL! After they make sure I have everything they need, they will turn it over to the insurance company & the approval process begins!!! Keeping fingers crossed.

I have even lost 10 lbs.

Started with a new doctor (THANK YOU GOD!!!), she is awesome. She ran everything I asked. She is ordering a MRI for my back. My back is always going out (even before my weight, and runs on both sides of my family, my sister is a string bean and has a plate in her lower back). I was in a wheelchair, and so emotional, worrying if she would listen since my last didn't. It's been 8 weeks of pinches, pulls, can't walk etc, bend you name it, and during that time I have spent 10+ days in bed. Twice it went out. This is the 6th time this year that it has went out. She ran bloodwork, got me the flu shot etc. SHE really listened. And when she called me personally at the end of the day to tell me my thyroid numbers I screamed!

Monday I will call for a update with my assistant that is charge of my case, and see what is up etc.

Even though my back was out (still is a pain), I was so happy. It was the best present I could have ever asked for.
