How does anyone get this surgery? my wife tried for quite awhile but our insurance changed and we were told it would not be covered, so many people get it...How?

I have a friend that is 5 years out, a friend that is 1 year out, a cousin who is 5 years out and my mom had the surgury as well. My mom's surgury was way way back when I was in high school. Back then, they did things so much different. That sounds like your husband is going well. I am glad things are coming around for you as well. Keep me updated when you can. Lori

I am glad the dr. seems to be getting the thyroid problem under control. It sounds like you have been on a long road to try to get all your ducks in order (so to say)to have the surgury. Do you know of anyone who has had the surgury? I know two plus my mom had it years and years ago. This was the old stapling of the stomach. What surgury are you considering? I wantt o stay away from the lap band.

How far have you gone as far as getting the surgury done? I went to the require meeting. I meet with my primary dr, asked her for a letter of support and to list my co-morbidities. I also asked her for a script for the require sleep study. I have made the appoinment with the Psycholist as well. These are all required steps in my area for the surgury. My primary dr. also has to show how long we have been looking at my weight issues. I wish I could just loose this weight. I know that the surugy is not the eay wat out as some have said to me! They just don't seem to get it as far as being heavy and unhealthy. I also have disabilities that limit my physical activies so this does nto help me either as far as loosing the weight.”

New Journey has begun
Apr 12, 2008

On 3/25 I had the gastric bypass surgery (WLS) & my gallbladder removed. I left the hospital on the second day after surgery. Everything is going great.

As of my second week post op, I had lost 17 lbs. I will weigh again Tuesday!

Thank you for everyone who supports me in this new healthy journey that I did to save my life.

A little bit closer
Nov 25, 2007

I went Tuesday to my psy. evaluation for the bariatric surgery process, and I passed! LOL! She said that I was a good canidate for the surgery. So she will have a meeting with the team (surgeons etc) for the next process, then turn it over to the insurance. So now it is time for the waiting game! We expect a month before we here anything.

My back is out again, so I am on 3 months of hell with it. Can't get anything done, and they have me on valium for pain and for me to relax, because of the spasms I am having. I see a specialist on 11/30. The mri showed L5 S1 & right nerve damage. So we will see!

update!

My therapist evaluation doesn't qualify, so I need to see someone I haven't seen before etc. So my appt with that person is at the doctors office and is scheduled for 11/20. So another 3 week"ish" behind schedule. But so close!!!!
